If You‘re Lucky, Your Car Is Red, 2010

20 t-shirts (red), everyday clothing, pedestal, cleaning materials

Radikal subjektiv

Kunsthaus Baselland, Basel
curated by Eric Hattan
28.11.2010 – 09.01.2011

Close to the glass façade of the exhibition space of the Kunsthaus Baselland 20 identical red T-Shirts are stacked on a plinth. During the opening, and at certain times in the process of the exhibition, the shirt worn by the artist is exchanged for one the red T-Shirts in the showroom. Her own clothing is used as cleaning rags for a performance, in which all red cars parked in the visible lots of the Kunsthaus Baselland at that point of time are polished with glass cleaner. Subsequently, the article of clothing used as a cleaning rag is brought back into the showroom and thrown beside the stack of T-shirts. The artist keeps the red shirt on, thus transferring it into her household. This action is repeated several times a week, its traces visible in the exhibition space in the quantitative decline of the red T-shirts and the increase of the used articles of clothing.
